A Few Questions for the Non-Binary/Gender-Fluid Set

Please help us to understand what being Non-Binary/Gender Fluid means and what you expect us to do about it.

A Most Confusing Phenomenon

I still find this non-binary/gender-fluid phenomenon that is so popular with Millennials and Zoomers very confusing.

A few years ago, when Bruce Jenner was transitioning into Caitlyn Jenner, she was asked by someone in the entertainment business who she would date once the transformation was complete. In my humble opinion, the answer was very cryptic:

Well, since I’m straight I will continue to be straight.

I am paraphrasing here as best as possible since I cannot find the news clips on YouTube. However, you can take the gist of it to the bank.

My poor brain almost had a meltdown trying to decipher what she meant. Did Jenner mean that she would continue dating women afterward? Wouldn’t that make her a lesbian then? Lesbians are not straight after all.

Or did Jenner mean that she would switch to dating men in order to remain “straight” in her new identity as a female?

It wasn’t until a year later that I finally got my answer after coming across a story about Jenner and her new twenty-something girlfriend. So it looks like Caitlyn mislead us about remaining straight. Or did she?

I still can’t figure it out.

The problem becomes far more frustrating when dealing with people who make no effort to change their sex yet demand the rest of us be enablers who help them to indulge in their fantasies. In contrast, I can accept and play along with people who have actually taken tangible steps to transform into their new sex.

Let me give you a few more examples of why this gender-bending craze is so perplexing for most of humanity. All three of the following examples are originally from TikTok, but I found them on YouTube. Unfortunately, I could only find one of the videos so will have to describe the other two in words.

1. Theo Comes Out

Meet “Theo,” who after giving it some serious thought for about 48 hours, decided that she was in reality a “guy.” In the video, “Theo” makes the big announcement to “his” giddy friends who squeal and clap like trained seals with no thought given to the sheer absurdity of such a claim.

“Last night I dyed my hair to feel more masculine,” said no man ever.

Theo’s off to a great start as a male. He will fit right in with the guys. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, Theo has as much chance of passing as a male, as I do of passing as Gal Gadot.

2. Little Ms. Fickle

Another TikTok gem had a young 100% woman explaining her gender fluidity. It went like this:

“I’m gender fluid so that means sometimes I’m a girl. Sometimes I’m a boy. Other times I’m neither. “

Now her next statement revealed that there is still a part of her mind that grasps the fact that these claims are nonsensical.

“Now you might be asking how you can tell what I am on a particular day.

Well, it’s simple. On days when I’m a boy, I wear this blue wrist bracelet. On days when I’m a girl, I wear this pink one. And on days when I’m neither, it’s this gray one.”

In sports, they call this an “own goal.”

In other words, everyone needs to check her wrist bracelet in order to know how to indulge her adolescent fantasy because there are no other clues.

Could she not grasp that she just shattered her own delusions about being gender fluid by admitting that it’s all in her head?

Apparently not.

3. The Rager

Finally, there’s the video of a girl, somewhere in the 16 to 18 age range, standing in front of her camera literally raging at it. We can see her from head to toe as well as a good bit of her bedroom. She is dressed in a shabby over-sized men’s suit which could fit two of her. It looks like something she picked up at Value Village for $5. She shouts at the camera:

“WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS SUIT THAT SAYS ‘NOT A MAN’?”

Well, for starters it’s obvious to anyone looking that you are 100% female. Your high-pitched voice is also a dead giveaway.

Your Barbie-esque bedroom decor is the final confirmation.

If people are constantly misgendering you, perhaps the problem is that you simply aren’t convincing as a member of the opposite sex. So why bother pretending? It all seems as futile as a 300 lb singer in a thong demanding that everyone see her as beautiful and sexy.

There must be thousands of these sad TikTok videos where kids are literally crying because some insensitive stranger failed to divine their pretend identity.

TikTok is Ground Zero for this—hopefully short-lived—craze.

My Questions for the Non-Binary/Gender Fluid

First off, I will say that I prefer to know nothing about your sexual identity, real or imagined, if we have just met or are mere acquaintances. Your self-identity as gender fluid, non-binary, pansexual, etc., is not something that I care about. It’s TMI!

Most people view a preoccupation with one’s sexual identity past puberty as evidence of stunted development.

But since you keep bringing it up as if it’s the most important and interesting fact about yourself, here are a few questions:

-How do you know that you are really a member of the opposite sex?

Last year, I read a story about how a mother handled being informed by her five-year-old son that he was a girl. She looked at him and asked lovingly “How do you know that you’re a girl? What do you think a girl is?” The boy reacted with a deer-in-the-headlights expression and that was the end of the matter. Even a child can recognize when they have been duped into being foolish.

-How can you have any idea of what it’s actually like to be a member of the opposite sex?

I have spent a grand total of about five minutes trying to imagine how life would be as a female. The reasons for this are two-fold: 1) I find it impossible to imagine because I have absolutely no experience with being female, and 2) I find this thought experiment an uninteresting waste of time.

If reincarnation proves to be true and I return as female, I will have the same acceptance of reality as I do in this life. There are advantages and disadvantages to both sexes and it all evens out over time.

-Do you actually believe that all it takes to change your sex is to make a declaration as Theo did?

Is it really just a matter of changing your wardrobe, name, and pronouns?

-Where does your ability to change cold hard reality stop?

Or does it have a limit?

What about changing your race or age? (People have actually tried to change both.)

-What changes do gender-fluid and non-binary people experience when they believe that they have flipped from one sex to another?

Can you suddenly change or not change a flat tire? What about dealing with the big spider on your bedroom ceiling? Do you kill it or do you sleep on the couch? What about responding to suspicious noises at night? Do you grab a baseball bat and go check it out or do you hide under the bed?

-Why is it up to me to affirm your sexual identity?

Not once in my life have I ever felt the need for someone else to affirm mine.

If you need affirmation from others it might be an indication that you don’t really believe your own fantasy.

-Finally, when you rotate through your various sexual identities, what differences are the rest of us supposed to notice?

This is a sincere question as are the rest.

I have seen hundreds of TitTok clips on YouTube where someone is devasted and crying over having been misgendered. These are not trans people who have put in the effort required to transition, such as hormone therapy and surgery, but the gender fluid and non-binary transtrenders who simply believe that they can flit about from sex to sex like a bee pollinating flowers.

To the rest of us, there is no discernible difference between boy-you and girl-you. Moreover, no instruments in existence can detect/spot any measurable differences between boy-you and girl-you. Any differences you think are there are merely a figment of your bored imagination.

I’m far from the first person to point this out about transtrenders but most are just insecure teens looking for a quick and easy way to become cool and popular.

I feel pity for Theo because it’s obvious to any observer why she might think that she stands no chance of happiness in life as a woman, so why not live as a man? Unfortunately, it won’t work for her.

In Conclusion

I’m an old-school liberal who believes in live and let live. If people need to live in a fantasy world, it’s fine by me just so long as they respect my rights not to be dragged into it. This means that you don’t expect me to date you, post my pronouns in communications, or treat 6’5’, 300 lb Bluto Blutarsky as a woman when he has made no effort to present as one or comes across as Lady Emily Howard from Little Britain.
